FR 102A; Horse Camp Seep
May 4,
2002
We met at
the Roadrunner Depot (Leader-Tom & Kris Epperson; Ed Weinstein; Pat Neveau
& Robbie; Kurt, Toni, Matt, & Patrick Kuhl) and left at 8:25 for Horse
Camp Seep. Traffic up the Beeline was light and we arrived at the trailhead at
9:15. A quick air down, then on to the trail. Within a hundred yards we made
our first stop for trash pick-up. Looked like someone had emptied their
campsite onto the ground instead of taking it with them. After this the trail
was in good condition and had evidence of being well traveled. The creek was
dry as well as the rest of the trail.

the “bypass”
The rough
work was encountered about three quarters into the trail, the brush was
encroaching and it was time to break out the clippers. Pat and I each brought
out chainsaws and began putting them to good use. Everybody was busy clearing
the road and I, thoroughly into the work didn’t notice that it was already
after 1:00 when Patrick Kuhl reminded me that we haven’t had lunch yet and he
was hungry. We reluctantly stopped, found a shady tree and had our
lunch.

Everybody working hard
After lunch we headed back to work on the trail. Half way
through one bush my saw threw the chain and destroyed it. This ended my saw use
but Pat’s kept on humming along until we stopped at 3:00. As we were about to
leave I heard a faint voice from the CB. Lee was calling and was on his way.
Back at the trailhead we said our goodbyes and except for Kris and I, Lee and
Linda the group headed home and we spent a campfire less night.

I was
impressed by the work the group accomplished and I thank all of you who
attended.
