Memorial Day Weekend Campout

Leader Pat Neveau.

We had a good turn out, Steve and his boy Matt, Tom Epperson and family, Kurt Kuhl and family, Mike Curtis and friend, Chuck, Lee Love and Linda, and me (Pat). We left at the usual time and headed to Safford. Traffic was not that bad for a three-day weekend. After a few 10-100 stops, we made it Safford, AZ, where we fueled up and headed for the high country to find a camp for three days and two nights. The group did not like the first campsite (sorry Chuck), but a new place was soon found that everyone agreed on, and tents started popping up all over.
The next morning we all gathered for the trip to the river, and to do some four wheelin’. As I remembered it, the river was a little higher about a month ago when I pre-ran it. There were lots of river crossings, steep short hills, river rocks and sand. We saw a few fish in the stream, or at least I did. After the last river crossing over a tall bridge, we saw about half dozen bighorn sheep. Back at camp we had the traditional steak dinner and a nice gathering around the invisible fire. The next day we packed up and headed for home. The weather was perfect and I was with good friends, thanks to all who came. I hope all had a good time.
