Sedona 4/19/2008

In an attempt to avoid the congestion and  construction that has been the status quo at the Carefree Hwy meeting place, we met at a McDonalds just off the Deer Valley exit off     I-17 (just north of 101).  Ron Finger, being in the ‘know’, warned us of intermittent I-17 freeway closings taking place between Deer Valley and Carefree Hwy, so we decided to take surface streets up to – you guessed it – Carefree Hwy!  This worked out well, as there was a stop light on Carefree and we made it through all together and smoothly entered the freeway.

There was an unscheduled restroom break midway up to Sedona (thanks for your support, ladies) and we were quickly back on the road.  We purchased Red Rock passes at a Circle K and found the trail without any problems.  The weather was beautiful, the trail was as expected, views spectacular.  We lunched at the overlook to Chicken Point, where the wind picked up quite a bit.  On our way out a couple of vehicles circled around something they found to play on (I don’t know exactly what, as I was up ahead).

We finished the trail and next stop was a Convenience Store & Gas for some Ice Cream, cold drinks, Air and maybe even some gas before heading home.

My thanks to Donna who performed her function as Tail Gunner admirably.  Thanks also to the other attendees:  Pat with Donna, Ron and Janet, Tom and Carol, Mike and Lynn, and Phil with me.  We also had guests from Phil’s job, and new club members Chuck, Gina and Nicky.  I appreciate all who attended and helped to make my first attempt at leading a run a success – it was a success, wasn’t it?
