Montana
Mountain
Maintenance Run – Ron
Finger trip leader
We
entered near
Queen
Valley
on FR 172. We were heading for FR 350, which starts near Rogers Trough
Trailhead and follows the ridgelines for some distance before going down the
Montana
Mountain
switchbacks, but saw so much trash we started picking up immediately. Several
large trash bags were filled by the time we reached the twin buttes and it was
getting hot so we broke off the trash pickup there and headed for higher ground
to have lunch. Toni’s Jeep experienced some over heating on the climb but
thanks to Pat Neveau’s
mechanical
skills and Jack Knight’s extra water supply the problem was solved and we
proceeded over the mountain and return to the highway near the Boyce Thompson
Arboretum. We had 7 vehicles and we picked up a lot of trash. All in all it was
a good outing. New members Duffy and Becky joined us for about half the trip and
then returned home so they could pick up their children from the babysitter.
