Picnic at Jack &
Sandy
’s Place.
On Saturday, April 8th,
Jack & Sandy held a patio party at their adobe house in the wilds of
Maricopa
County
, North of Rio Verde Blvd. We grilled hamburgers and hot dogs, and with the
salads and deserts that everyone brought it was quite a feast (Thanks
everyone!). Afterwards Jack led a 4WD trip that started about 200 yards from the
house, in the
State
Trust
Land
just East of Granite Mountain. The whole area is covered with trails, mostly
narrow Quad trails, but there are a few roads wide enough for Jeeps. You can get
a mapfrom the web:

We went in at Access Gate D on Trail 3, and followed it up and down the
whoop-de-do’s and through some brushy spots to the Tonto National Forest
Boundary, where route 3 turns SW and heads for the powerline road that runs down
to the Pima/Dynamite intersection.. We turned instead onto FS 2090 and followed
it through the desert until it hit the powerline road running NE, and came out
onto the Horseshoe Dam road. A few miles down the road we turned into Camp Creek
wash, and followed it down to the
Verde River
recreation area, and then back out to
Rio Verde Blvd.
The whole round trip took about 2 1/2 hours, the weather was beautiful, and
everyone had a good time.
Jack
